What will you learn?
The Master’s degree study programme in Auxiliary Historical Sciences prepares qualified professionals for work with various types of historical sources. The objective of the study is to deepen interpretative and methodological skills in particular auxiliary historical sciences and application of the theoretical knowledge and skills in compiling historical sources, mainly in the form of critical editions. Students will learn basic methods of interpretation and text review and will be able to apply the acquired skills in auxiliary historical sciences within an interdisciplinary approach in a wider context of historical sciences. They will acquire language skills both in current expert communication and in historical grammar books of the main source languages in Czech archives.
Practical training
Practical training is not an obligatory part of the study plan. Students may optional practical training in selected memory and research institutions.

Career opportunities
Graduates of this Master’s degree study programme will be prepared for a further expert career, including compiling and cataloguing historical archival funds and collections in archives, libraries with historical collections, museums, and galleries.
Admission requirements
Deadline for submitting applications: August 1 - November 30
Who the programme is intended for: The programme is intended for graduates of any Bachelor’s degree programme.
Subject matter of the entrance examination: Oral examination in paleography (reading of the text), and basics of auxiliary historical sciences (sphragistics, heraldry, codicology, and medieval Czech diplomacy).
Waiver of the entrance examination: The entrance examination can be waived for applicants who have passed the Bachelor’s examination in the field/programme of Auxiliary Historical Sciences at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University with an excellent (A), very good (B), or good (C) result. The entrance examination may also be waived for applicants whose overall result of the Bachelor's State Examination in programme of Auxiliary Historical Sciences at the MU Faculty of Arts was assessed as “passed with excellent results”. Applicants can ask for a waiver for the entrance examination via email to prijimaci.rizeni@phil.muni.cz.
