What will you learn?
The purpose of this Master’s degree study programme is to enhance the level of education and special competences for the professional work of a historian acquired during the Bachelor’s degree study programme. Students will deepen their knowledge of Czech and general history and their capability of working with a wide range of methods and become acquainted with a number of historiographical findings. The extent of the specialization within the Master’s degree study programme is primarily determined by the choice of a study plan.
The follow-up full-time Master’s degree study programme is aimed at graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in history from Masaryk University’s Faculty of Arts and at graduates in history and related subjects from other universities.
1) The course is specialized, which means that students choose one of the specializations on offer (Medieval History; History of the Early Modern Age; Modern History and Religious History). 2) The follow-up full-time Master’s degree study programme is on offer also in a form of a study plan for two-subjects study. This study is realised as a combination of a study plan for the major subject with a minor subject study plan that is part of a separate study programme.Career opportunities
Graduates with this degree are qualified for positions as specialists in research institutions, libraries, museums, and information and documentation centres, and for work in the media and publishing. They are also qualified to work in managerial positions and in public relations in both the public and private sector. Graduates can also apply for a doctoral degree study programme in history and related subjects.

Deadline for submitting applications: August 1 - November 30
Who the programme is intended for: The programme is intended for graduates of any Bachelor’s degree programme.
Subject matter of the entrance examination: Written examination - knowledge in the scope of the Bachelor’s degree programme in the studies of History (questions from the introduction to history, from Czech history, from general history, from historiography from the beginning of the Middle Ages to 1989). The written examination takes 60 minutes.
Waiver of the entrance examination: The entrance examination can be waived for applicants who have passed the Bachelor’s examination in the field/programme of History at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University with an excellent (A), very good (B), or good (C) result. The entrance examination may also be waived for applicants whose overall result of the Bachelor's State Examination in programme of History at the MU Faculty of Arts was assessed as “passed with excellent results”. Applicants can ask for a waiver for the entrance examination via the e-application form, section "Application for waiver of the entrance examination".

Study options
Single-subject studies with specialization
In the single-subject studies, the student deepens knowledge in the concrete focus of the degree programme and chooses one specialization. The specialization is stated in the university diploma.
